About the Charity

What does the Helen Straker Charity do?

Helen was an inspirational lady who for 13 years battled her way through various forms and stages of cancer before passing in September 2013.

During these years Helen set about helping people suffering similar illness without thought for her own situation and Helen was determined to raise funds for RUH Forever Friends Appeal and Dorothy House Hospice Care and it was with these 2 charities in mind that The Helen Straker Charity was formed in her memory.

From the outset The Helen Straker Charity has followed Helens wishes and raised funds which in turn have been shared between the two charities favoured by Helen.

RUHX (formerly Forever Friends) is the official NHS Charity for the Bath Royal United Hospital and the donations made went towards the building of the Dyson Cancer Wing and to the purchase of the cutting-edge surgical robot, the Da Vinci XI.

Dorothy House Hospice provides care and to support to people living with life limiting illnesses in our community. To do this they need to raise funds of £10 million pounds every year!

Whilst these to great causes remain at the core of our aims, we also feel it is now the right time to look at other causes and offer them a little support too!
